The origin of perfume

The history of perfume dates back thousands of years, originating in ancient civilizations. At that time, people burned natural plants such as resins, herbs, and flowers for sacrifices, religious ceremonies, and environmental purification; therefore, "perfume" was initially closely linked to spices and incense. As society developed, people gradually discovered the unique charm of the aromas emitted by plants and began to experiment with extracting and preserving these natural fragrances.

Ancient Egypt was one of the earliest regions in the world to use spices and perfumes. Egyptians often used natural raw materials such as lotus, myrrh, and frankincense to make balms and fragrant oils, which were used not only in religious activities but also widely applied in daily life, beauty care, and aristocratic etiquette. With the development of trade, these spices and production methods gradually spread to other regions, profoundly influencing later perfume culture.

During the ancient Greek and Roman periods, perfume-making techniques continued to improve. People began to study the combination of different plant spices and widely used perfumes in banquets, bathing, and social activities. In the Middle Ages, the Arab region improved distillation techniques, making the extraction of plant essential oils more sophisticated, laying an important foundation for the development of modern liquid perfumes.

After the 14th century, perfume gradually spread to Europe and experienced rapid development in France. With continuous innovation in perfumery techniques, France gradually became a major center of the global perfume industry. Today, perfume has evolved from its initial religious uses into an everyday consumer product that combines art, culture, and fashion, enjoying widespread popularity around the world.
